I would like to express my thanks to my supervisor, doc. Dr. Wilken Engelbrecht, cand. litt. who has been a great support during the whole course of my research, to Prof. Dr. Rosemarie Buikema who has lead me in the final phase of the work on this project, and at last but not least to Dr. Lianne Barnard, M.A. who shaped my ideas about theory of literature and who always directed my thinking in the right direction. I would not be able to work on this research without the financial support of the Flemish government and Nederlandse Taalunie thanks to which I could spend a substantial part of my studies and research in the Netherlands and Belgium, working in libraries and consulting my research with experts in the field.
